Most people look at those infrared lamps in the ceiling and just think, “Oh, that’ll keep me warm.” But there’s a lot more going on there than just a bit of heat. If you’re tired of scrubbing mildew off your walls, these things are actually your best friend.
How it actually works
Here is the secret: these lamps don’t bother warming up the air. If you’ve ever used a space heater, you know how the air gets stuffy but the walls stay freezing. This is different. These lamps use shortwave radiation. It sounds fancy, but all it means is that the heat goes straight through the air and hits your walls and floors directly. It warms the actual surfaces of the room. When your walls stay warm, water can’t settle on them. No condensation means no damp spots. And no damp spots means mold spores have nowhere to live. It’s a simple way to keep the room dry without having to run a loud dehumidifier all day.
The trade-off
To get enough power to actually dry out a steamy bathroom, we use high-wattage quartz tubes. Quartz is key here because it can handle insane heat without melting. Now, there is a catch. Because these lamps are so powerful, the area directly under them getshot. Really hot. That’s why we make sure the ceiling housing is built from heat-resistant materials. You don’t want to accidentally scorch your ceiling just to keep your walls dry.
Setting it up and keeping it running
We designed these to be a “drop-in” deal. When a tube eventually burns out—which happens—you can just swap it for a new one. You won’t have to tear apart your ceiling or rewire the whole house. But here is the trick to making it work:Aim for the cold spots. Check your corners or the area behind the shower curtain. That’s where the moisture hides. If the light doesn’t hit the surface, the mold will find a way back in. Also, give the glass a quick wipe every now and then. Dust and soap scum act like a shield, blocking the heat from getting out. Keep the glass clean, and the room stays dry. Simple as that.
