
Why Your Bathroom Heater Shouldn’t Feel Like a Heat Lamp at a Buffet
Most bathroom infrared lamps use short-wave radiation. It’s great for getting you warm the second you flip the switch, but there’s a catch: the glare. Ever noticed how some of these lamps give off a harsh, blinding light? It’s a pain for anyone, but for babies with sensitive eyes, it’s actually a real problem. We figured out a way to fix that by tweaking the light spectrum. Getting rid of the glare We don’t just “dim” the light. Instead, we use a specific kind of doped quartz glass and internal coatings to block those aggressive blue-light peaks. Basically, we push the energy into the infrared range—where the heat lives—and kill off the visible light that makes you squint. You get all the warmth, but none of that blinding white flash. Building it into your ceiling Since these are designed to be recessed, we have to think about what’s happening above the ceiling. If you just shove a heater into a hole, the heat builds up in the void, which isn’t great. To stop that, we use high-temperature reflectors. They act like a mirror, forcing the heat straight down toward you and away from the mounting brackets. And because bathrooms are steamy, we use quartz tubes. They can handle the “thermal shock” of cold vapor hitting a hot lamp without cracking. A few things to watch for during install Here is the part where you need to be careful: ventilation. Since the unit is tucked away, it can trap heat behind the reflector. If your ceiling void isn’t vented, the air around your wiring can get pretty hot over time. Eventually, that can wear down your insulation. Plus, double-check your wire gauge. If the wires are too thin, you’ll get a voltage drop, and your lamps won’t last nearly as long as they should. It’s a small detail, but it makes a huge difference.
