How it actually works
It’s pretty simple. We use quartz halogen tubes. The second you flip the switch, the tungsten filament inside hits its peak temperature in a fraction of a second. Because it’s infrared, the heat travels in a straight line. It doesn’t wander around the room. It goes straight to you. You feel it almost immediately, which is a huge relief when you’re trying to get dressed in a cold house.
The tricky part: Getting the build right
You can’t just throw a heat lamp behind a mirror and call it a day. Glass is finicky. If the heat is too intense or uneven, the mirror can crack. We use high-grade quartz glass that can handle the shock of going from cold to hot instantly. We also had to be really careful with the wattage. If it’s too powerful, it can actually burn the silver backing off the mirror, leaving you with permanent ugly spots. And the wiring? We use heat-resistant connectors. The last thing you want is for the insulation to melt because the unit stayed on too long.
A few things to keep in mind
These are designed to slide right into your existing vanity setup, which helps take the pressure off your home’s main heating system. But here’s the thing: infrared is directional. If you step a few feet to the left, you’ll lose that “warm hug” feeling. You have to be in the path of the light to feel the magic. We also make sure the mounting brackets have a little bit of “wiggle room.” Since the quartz tube expands when it gets hot, it needs space to breathe so it doesn’t put too much stress on the frame.
