If you’re preheating Low-E glass and your conveyor is wider than 3 meters, you’ve probably noticed a frustrating problem: cold spots. Standard, off-the-shelf lamps just can’t keep up at that scale. You get uneven heat, and in this business, uneven heat is a nightmare. That’s why we build custom, ultra-long infrared heating units. We basically tailor them to fit your specific drying tunnels so the heat is dead-on across the entire width. The struggle with power and length You can’t just stretch a quartz tube to 3 meters and call it a day. If you do, the tube might bow or just burn out at the ends. It’s a balancing act. We spend a lot of time dialing in the wattage and voltage. The goal is to get the glass to the right temperature without creating those nasty local hot spots that warp your coating. Also, a quick tip: make sure your power supply is actually up for the task. If you have voltage drops across the line, the whole system suffers. What goes into the build We use high-purity quartz because it can take the thermal shock without cracking. Depending on what you’re doing with your Low-E process, we can add specialized coatings to the tube. This shifts the emission spectrum so the heat actually sinks into the glass substrate instead of just warming up the air around it. And because conveyor systems vibrate—a lot—we use heavy-duty connectors. There’s nothing worse than a wire shaking loose in the middle of a production run. The trade-offs you should know about Here is the reality: these long units are great for saving space. You get more heating surface and fewer supports to deal with. But they are fragile. One wrong move or a bump during installation can crack a 3-meter tube in a heartbeat. To avoid that, we suggest using precision-aligned brackets so there’s zero mechanical stress on the quartz. And one last thing—don’t forget your cooling. These high-wattage arrays put out a massive amount of ambient heat. If your cooling system isn’t spec’d for that, things will get uncomfortably hot, fast.
